New Member Selection Process
Last Updated: Aug 3, 2023
1. Students are notified through a post on the IAM Announcements Schoology page that the NHS chapter is evaluating new candidates. Students who are juniors or seniors with a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.50 or above are eligible to complete and submit a Candidate Packet. Being eligible does not guarantee membership. Packets are available starting the first week of school in August.
2.Eligible and interested candidates complete the Candidate Packet, which is found on the IAM Announcements Schoology post during the first week of school. (It may be helpful review how the NHS defines Leadership, Service and Character when completing those sections of the Candidacy Form)
3. Candidate Packet Forms are generally due to be submitted by Labor Day. Details are included on the IAM Announcements page on Schoology.
4. The NHS Faculty Council consists of five members of the staff. Mrs. Cook is not eligible to serve on the Faculty Council as she is the chapter advisor. The Faculty Council reviews the information submitted in the Candidate Packet Form. Membership is determined based on a majority vote. Administration confirms the decisions made by the Faculty Council.
5. Candidates are notified of their membership or denial by letters via a letter distributed during the school day. If a candidate gains membership, the letter will contain information on the first meeting and the Induction Ceremony. If a candidate does not gain membership, the letter will contain information about possible candidacy in the future (for junior students). These letters will be distributed by Friday, September 22.
6. Members have their first meeting to discuss the Induction Ceremony and ongoing requirements of the chapter.
7. The Induction Ceremony will be held during an evening ceremony in October to induct new members into the chapter. Members will receive an invitation flyer with their membership letter.
